FAQs and Answers About Laser Hair Removal

Wondering how well laser hair removal works and whether it’s safe for you? The following are some of the most common questions and answers about the procedure.

Is it safe?

The FDA has approved the use of lasers in many treatments, including hair removal. As long as you go to a trained professional, the treatment is absolutely safe.

Does it hurt and are there any side effects?

In general, laser hair removal does not hurt. Some patients with sensitive skin might feel slight discomfort, but it is not a painful procedure. The first few days after treatment, you might have some redness and swelling. If you do not get your treatment completed by a trained professional, you might experience scarring, blistering, infection, and skin discoloration.

Is downtime required?

In most cases, there is no downtime required. You can have your treatment done and go right back to work or other daily activities. If you do experience slight redness and swelling, you might be more comfortable waiting a few days to return to exercise and other physical tasks.

How quickly will I see results and how long do those results last?

Most people see the results right away. However, for full hair removal, it usually takes anywhere from two to six treatments. Those results can last for months or years. Any hair that does regrow, though, tends to be lighter and finer, making it less noticeable than before.

What should I do after treatment?

The most important things are usually to avoid direct sunlight, tanning beds, and other tanning resources. Dr. Young and Dr. Heaton of Rocky Mountain Dermatology in Brigham City, Washington Terrace, Marriott-Slatersville, and North Logan, UT will give you any other specific instructions after your treatment.
